Whether on honeymoon or just wishing to sample life on a tropical island, the Indian ocean islands off the African Coast offer pristine beaches and clear, warm waters.

Many people thinking of a vacation or honeymoon to Africa consider wildlife safaris and visits to the wilderness areas on the African continent to be the only option. However, the close-by tropical islands off the east African coast are a paradise for visitors and honeymooners alike. The ocean is warm and inviting. Diving, fishing and water sports offer plenty of opportunities for an active vacation, while white beaches beckon those who simply want to relax.

Vacations Zanzibar

Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous part of the of Tanzania in East Africa. It consists of numerous small islands and two large ones. The tropical island of Zanzibar has become very popular in recent years due to the diving and fishing opportunities, the beautiful beaches and a laid-back Afro-Arab culture. The capital is Stone Town, a World Heritage Site. Most hotels offer tours to swim with the dolphins, snorkeling and diving tours, spice or forest tours and organised trips to the old slave quarters.

Seychelles Island

The Seychelles is a well-known tropical archipelago, made up of around 115 islands in the Indian ocean. The Seychelles are located north-east of Madagascar and east of Kenya. They are spectacularly beautiful, comprising of granitic islands, coral and raised coral islands. They have become a rather expensive destination in recent decades, however. This is because the Seychelles is a world leader in sustainable tourism and attracts financially strong visitors rather than encouraging cheaper, short term mass tourism. The islands are especially popular as a honeymoon destination.

Mauritius

Mauritius is an island nation off the coast of the African continent in the south west Indian Ocean, about 900 kilometres east of Madagascar. Part of France, Mauritius is part of the Mascarene Islands, with the French island of Réunion to the south west and the island of Rodrigues to the north east. Popular with South African and European visitors for decades now, this Indian ocean island is a well known tropical paradise with its warm Indian ocean waters, world class hotels and abundance of fishing, diving, snorkeling and water sports activities.

Bazaruto Archipelago

The Bazaruto Archipelago is a protected national park, off the coast of Mozambique and includes 6 islands, including Benguerra island and Bazuruto. These unspoiled Indian Ocean islands offer an idyllic setting for a honeymoon or family vacation.
