The time a woman is pregnant is generally exciting and joyful. Women can also be anxious, exhausted and concerned with overall health during this period.

Natural treatments can help to alleviate the negative aspects of pregnancy, such as tiredness and heartburn, and keep the mother-to-be in good health and good spirits.

Massage During Pregnancy

Massage can relieve nervous tension and insomnia during pregnancy. In most cases it is safe and beneficial to receive massage up to the due date and beyond. Many women schedule a session on their due date so they have something to look forward to if they have not yet gone into labor. A massage is a great way to prepare the body for the experience of giving birth. Women on bed rest should always consult a doctor if they have special circumstances.

Coconut oil can be rubbed into the skin to keep the skin supple. A few drops of lavender essential oil added to a bath is great for the skin, in very small quantities only. Be wary of mixing essential oils during pregnancy.

Remedies to Prevent Heartburn During Pregnancy

Heartburn is a burning sensation in the upper chest, which is caused by acidic juices rising back up the esophagus. It may also leave a sour, unpleasant taste in the mouth and is common during pregnancy.

Peppermint tea can ease heartburn and is excellent for any kind of digestive upset. Do not drink large quantities of any herbal tea while pregnant. In small quantities, teas made from ginger, lime blossom, roasted barley, rose hip, and thyme are probably safe to drink occasionally in small amounts while pregnant or nursing. However, drinking excessive amounts of herbal teas can cause health problems for mother and/or developing baby.

Staying away from spicy or greasy food and/or eating smaller meals can prevent bouts of heartburn.

Speak to a qualified homeopath about capsicum for severe heartburn with a burning sensation behind the breastbone.

Drinking a glass of warm water with a little honey and apple cider vinegar before going to bed can help the pregnant woman sleep peacefully at night.

Exhaustion During Pregnancy

Many women feel constantly tired during pregnancy, especially during the first and third trimester. If extreme exhaustion is felt throughout pregnancy, visit a health care professional to rule out causes such as depression, anaemia or anxiety.

A healthy diet with plenty of pure water should boost energy levels. Olives and olive oil helps restore vitality and can help with overall exhaustion and mental tiredness.

Do not engage in overly strenuous exercise or work too hard physically when pregnant, but do ensure that some exercise, such as a daily walk, is undertaken each day.
